Shown here are two 6-inch 1/8 IP pipes, threaded on
each end, with a knurled nut at one end as the shade rest.
These short pipes come in various lengths, depending on what you need,
and are used at the top of a lamp if you don't have a harp & wing
assembly. They hold a fabric lampshade with washer-top
fitter, then a Finial is attached above the shade to hold it in place.
The finial shown on the left has a large hole in the bottom to fit directly onto the 1/8 IP pipe. On the right is shown a finial adapter on top, which will accept a standard 1/4-27 thread Finial. If you have a Handel or Tiffany style lamp that uses a glass shade, most often you need a two-piece assembly called a "Heat Cap and Aperture Ring". (click this link.) |
Table lamp pipe, socket caps, and some finials are "1/8 IP", industry standard 3/8" outside diameter.
Floor lamp pipe & bases, and clusters are called "1/4 IP", industry standard 1/2" outside diameter.
